Qualifications for childcare

As a professional nanny it is always important to have a childcare qualification to add to the work experience gained. Hopscotch recommends the following courses.

NNEB Diploma in Childcare and Education

This qualification is a two year full time course providing an in depth knowledge to all aspects of physical, social, emotional and educational insight into a child’s development from 0 – 8 years. This course also provides experience in health, first aid and hygiene as well as educational learning through play. Students will have the opportunity to engage in training in nursery, school and family placements during the course of their studies.

NVQ Level 2 & 3

Each level of the NVQ takes 2 years to complete and is a recognised qualification and covers both practical and theory training. The level 2 qualification provides a nanny with access to employment within a supervisory role usually with a parent at home. Level 3 provides suitably qualified nannies to work in a sole charge care position and is equivalent to the NNEB

Norland, Princess Christian and Chiltern.

This form of qualification is for 2 years, it is traditionally only available from private colleges. These colleges have their own private nurseries for training where students are able to get hands on experience whilst they study for their qualification. Students then have access to employment on a probationary period for 6-9 months before they obtain their qualification.
